McWane Chairman Phillip McWane joined Birmingham officials and many other community members in celebrating the renovation of Jimmie Hale Mission's Shepura Men's Center Dormitory. Phillip provided the initial kickstarter funding toward the renovation as a part of the Mission's Lasting Transformation capital campaign. Throughout the project, Phillip also offered valuable input on the architectural plans.
"We're thrilled with Phillip McWane's guidance on our project and his generosity in setting into motion the much-needed renovation of our men's dormitory," said Perryn Carroll, the Mission's Executive Director.
Nearly six years in the making, the project converted a more than 100-year-old building from an open-air space to suite-style living that restores dignity, promotes camaraderie, ensures increased accountability and improves sleep, bolstering emotional and mental health.
"When our community is hurting, they need to know that there's a safe haven for them. A place of refuge. It turns out that Jimmie Hale represents just that, a shelter from the personal storms in so many of our residents' lives," said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.
